Amidst Syria’s largest displacement in history, the local organization Violet took a moment to step back and reflect the locally-led, community-rooted response to a) braced itself for the upcoming months of response with lessons learned at hand and b) evidence-based recommendations for funding and advocacy.

Assignment

In their roles as program leaders, Katharina and Alaa worked together to reflect on lessons learnt and challenges experienced during the displacements of over 2 million individuals. The report was used to advocate for funding.

Localization Agenda

Violet’s displacement response was possible through donor contributions, but mostly through the significant community mobilization with youth volunteers. Funding did not arrive as quickly as anticipated, thus Violet had to respond to the crisis immediately without international support at first.
